Trump Set to Meet Mamdani at Gracie Mansion Monday, Netanyahu Notably Absent From His UN Week Schedule

President Donald Trump's schedule for U.N. General Assembly week is packed. Zohran Mamdani, Volodymyr Zelensky, six Gulf Arab leaders and Venezuela's Vice President Delcy Rodriguez all have slots. Benjamin Netanyahu's schedule does not include a Trump meeting.

The Mamdani Meeting

Trump and Mamdani are scheduled to meet Monday at Gracie Mansion, according to a White House official and the mayor's office, confirmed to both MS NOW and City & State. It's their third meeting in roughly ten months and the first on Mamdani's own turf, following sit-downs at the White House in November 2025 and February 2026.

City Hall told City & State the meeting "will focus on issues affecting New York City and New Yorkers," but a spokesperson declined to give further detail on topics or logistics. City & State also noted the meeting lands on Yom Kippur, the Jewish High Holy Day.

Presidential visits to Gracie Mansion are rare. The Daily Wire noted John F. Kennedy visited in 1962 under Mayor Robert F. Wagner Jr., and Ronald Reagan went in 1981. Trump met with former Mayor Eric Adams twice in 2025, but Monday will mark his third meeting with Mamdani alone.

The relationship has been unusually cordial given the rhetoric. Trump has called Mamdani a communist. Mamdani has called Trump a fascist. Yet at their February meeting, Mamdani presented Trump with a mock newspaper cover reading "Trump to City: Let's Build" and secured the release of a Columbia University student who'd been detained by ICE that same day, according to the Daily Wire. The two also discussed federal housing money for the city.

Asked last week whether he'd meet Trump during U.N. week, Mamdani said, "When it comes to the president, we continue to have a conversation about how best to deliver for this city. That is a conversation that has been done in person, it's been done over the phone, and it will continue so long as either of us have the ability to deliver for the city."

Netanyahu Stays Away, Zelensky Gets His Meeting

Netanyahu is expected in New York but only briefly. City & State reported, citing The Times of Israel, that he's not expected to meet Trump and plans to be in the city for about a day, ahead of a Thursday U.N. speech. A senior U.S. official told MS NOW that Netanyahu's presence in New York "is going to be quite limited" and that he'll arrive "after the president leaves."

Netanyahu has been Trump's closest partner in the war against Iran, a conflict MS NOW describes as having expanded significantly across the Middle East, with U.S. gas, fertilizer and consumer prices climbing alongside it.

Mamdani had campaigned on threatening to arrest Netanyahu if he set foot in New York, citing the International Criminal Court's warrant against him, and his administration examined whether it had legal authority to execute that warrant, per the Daily Wire. City & State reported Mamdani's team concluded in July it lacked that authority, and separately reported that Mamdani last week claimed he'd never encouraged New Yorkers to protest Netanyahu's visit, a claim City & State says conflicts with his campaign record. Trump, for his part, had already assured Netanyahu on Truth Social he "will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form," while in the U.S.

Zelensky, meanwhile, confirmed his own meeting is set. He posted on X Sunday that he and Trump spoke by phone and "agreed to meet in New York." "An important conversation, and we got through a lot," Zelensky wrote, calling it a session that "could change a lot" and adding, "The peace track is our number one priority." His comments came the same day Ukraine launched a large drone strike on Moscow, on the closing day of Russia's first wartime parliamentary election.

Iran, Gaza and Gulf Diplomacy

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz told reporters Trump's General Assembly address will argue Iran must be blocked from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and will also cover the administration's 20-point Gaza peace plan. Trump is scheduled to meet leaders from six Gulf Arab countries as the administration weighs next steps in the Iran conflict, according to Fox News.

Separately, Iran International reported that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Iran's Abbas Araghchi in Beijing that China is ready to play a "constructive role" and urged Washington and Tehran to rebuild direct talks. Iranian officials, per that reporting, are increasingly eyeing Beijing as a possible bridge, though China has not publicly offered to mediate directly. That diplomacy comes ahead of a planned meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington next week.

Whether any of that produces a shift on Iran, or whether Netanyahu and Trump end up in the same room before the president leaves New York, remains unclear as of Sunday.
