Masked group rams pickup into Lynnwood, Washington jewelry store; owner fires gun and suspects flee empty-handed

A group of masked people rammed a pickup truck through the front of Medina Jewelers in Lynnwood, Washington, in the middle of the day. They left with nothing.
The attempt began shortly after 12:25 p.m. on a Tuesday, according to the Lynnwood Police Department. Surveillance video released by police shows three vehicles circling the parking lot before a white Toyota Tacoma drives through the storefront. Glass shatters and employees run.
Several masked suspects then rush through the opening, police footage shows. One appears to be carrying an axe.
The store owner grabbed a gun and fired, and the group scrambled out empty-handed, according to police. In the footage, a man reported to be the owner is seen pointing a gun at the suspects as they run. No injuries were reported at the scene. Police said it is unclear whether any suspect was hit by gunfire.
Investigators are also still trying to determine whether any of the suspects were armed with a firearm. The footage shows at least one apparent edged weapon.
The suspects fled in a black BMW SUV and a silver Toyota or Infiniti sedan, police said. The BMW hit a parked vehicle as it left and may have damage to its front passenger side. The Tacoma that went through the storefront was left behind. Police have not said who owns it or whether it was stolen.
Lynnwood Police Cmdr. Joe Dickenson called the incident unusual for the city. "It was broad daylight and a pretty rare occurrence for us," he told FOX13 Seattle.
He also pointed to the risk to bystanders. "You had several witnesses that were out and about, several pedestrians walking around; all of a sudden, a car crashing into a building and shots ringing out is cause for alarm," Dickenson said.
That risk runs in two directions. The suspects crashed a truck into an occupied retail space, with employees inside and pedestrians nearby. The owner then fired a gun in that same setting. Police have not said whether the shooting is under review or whether any charges are being considered in connection with it.
The department has not announced any arrests. Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the suspects or vehicles in the surveillance footage to email crimetips@lynnwoodwa.gov and reference case No. 2026-37986.
The open questions are specific. Police still need to establish whether any suspect was struck by the owner's gunfire, whether any of them carried a firearm, and who was in the BMW and the second car. The damaged front passenger side of the BMW is one of the few physical leads investigators have publicly described.
