Trump Announces Wednesday Rally to Replace Bailed Artists — Calls Them 'Third Rate' on Truth Social

Trump Announces Rally to Replace Artists
On Saturday, May 30, Trump posted on Truth Social that he is ordering his representatives to explore holding an 'America Is Back' rally on Wednesday in Washington, D.C. — same time, same location as the Freedom 250 concert series. According to ABC News, Trump said he would "give a major speech, rallying the Country forward" to replace the "highly paid, Third rate 'Artists.'" According to BBC News, Trump also declared himself "the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World."
The artists said they were concerned the event was a political vehicle disguised as a birthday party. Trump's response was to convert it into a political rally.
The Timeline
Freedom 250 spokeswoman Rachel Reisner told ABC News on Friday that "The Great American State Fair is a celebration of all Americans" and insisted the event was nonpartisan. By Saturday, Trump announced plans to hold a political rally in its place.
According to CNN, Freedom 250 is a White House organization launched by executive order specifically to create Trump-driven alternatives to the nonpartisan United States Semiquincentennial Commission.
The Dropout List
According to CNN and ABC News, the confirmed dropouts now include The Commodores, Martina McBride, Morris Day & The Time, Bret Michaels of Poison, and rapper Young MC — the majority of the announced lineup, gone in under 48 hours.
McBride's statement, posted to Instagram, was direct: "I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out to be misleading."
Vanilla Ice remains the most vocal defender. In an Instagram video reported by the New York Post, the 58-year-old rapper said the event is "not a political platform" and called it "a magical event." He also said he has never voted in his life and argued that music is politically neutral.
The Booking Question
Freedom 250 booked artists through a single booking agent, Jeff Epstein of Universal Attractions, according to CNN, without apparently being transparent about the event's political nature. Epstein did not respond to CNN's repeated requests for comment.
The Broader Context
America's 250th birthday is a once-in-a-lifetime event. The nonpartisan U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission — America 250 — exists by act of Congress to handle exactly this kind of national milestone. Instead, a parallel White House-created organization is now running a competing celebration that has collapsed in real time, with the president pivoting to a campaign rally.
