Paul Kueker, 51, Falls to His Death at Madison Square Garden During Goose Concert

Paul Kueker was 51 years old, a husband, a father of two, and by his mother's account, the kind of man who gave without being asked. He died Saturday night, June 20 — the day before Father's Day — after falling from the Chase Bridge, an elevated seating section at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

His mother, Patricia Finelli, told the New York Post: "He was the greatest kid in the whole wide world. He'd give you the shirt off his back. He has two children, a beautiful wife, and he took care of me like I was a piece of gold."

What Happened

NYPD officers responded at approximately 9:51 p.m. Saturday after finding Kueker unconscious and unresponsive inside the arena, according to TMZ, which cited officials directly. He had fallen from the Chase Bridge, an elevated seating section added to MSG in 2013. The New York Post and The Mirror US both reported the fall as approximately 150 feet. TMZ reported he had been seated in the 300s section.

Kueker was attending the show with his wife, who was on scene when officers arrived. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

NYPD told TMZ the incident is NOT being investigated as a crime.

The Scene

Goose, a Connecticut-based jam band, was in the middle of a two-night run at MSG as part of their summer tour. The band completed a full 16-song set around midnight Saturday, hours after Kueker's fall, according to the New York Post.

Eyewitness accounts posted to Reddit, and cited by The Mirror US, described a loud impact heard across multiple lower sections. One attendee wrote: "In section 101, the thud was incredibly loud. All of us in sections 101, 102, and 103 are shaken pretty hard."

Photos shared online showed several seats caved in and a large area of the lower bowl cordoned off with police tape. The Mirror US reported the multi-tiered venue's seating levels collectively reach the equivalent height of roughly a 10-story building.

Goose released a statement after the show: "We are deeply saddened and heartbroken to learn of the tragic event that occurred at tonight's show. We extend our deepest sympathies to everyone affected. Thank you to the emergency personnel and venue staff who stepped in with care and support."

The Chase Bridge and Safety Questions

The Chase Bridge is an elevated seating section that was added to MSG in a 2013 renovation and is one of the arena's premium offerings. A fall of 150 feet from a ticketed seating area inside one of the most heavily staffed event venues in the country raises immediate questions about barrier height and integrity, event staffing, and protocols for responding to someone in distress at elevation.

NYPD's determination that this is not a crime does not address civil liability or venue safety standards. Those are separate questions that venue regulators or Kueker's family could pursue independently.

What Remains Unknown

Officials have not released details on the precise circumstances of the fall: whether Kueker lost his footing, leaned against a railing, or something else entirely. The NYPD's public posture is that no criminal act occurred, but no forensic or safety investigation findings have been released.

MSG's operator, MSG Entertainment, had not issued a public statement as of the time sources for this article were published Sunday. Whether New York City's Department of Buildings or any regulatory body will review the Chase Bridge's safety design in response to this death has not been announced.
