Vitality Works Recalls One Lot of 365 Whole Foods Ashwagandha Capsules Over Possible Salmonella

A New Mexico supplement maker is pulling one batch of a Whole Foods house-brand product off the market over a possible salmonella problem.
Vitality Works Inc. of Albuquerque is recalling lot 2025-26227 of 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha Capsules, 120 count. The FDA posted the company's announcement Friday, Oct. 30.
No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the company.
How to check your bottle
The product comes in a white plastic bottle. The UPC is 9948252099.
The lot number, 2025-26227, and the expiration date, 10/13/2028, are both printed on the bottom of the bottle. Only that lot is covered. Other lots of the same product are not part of the recall.
The capsules were sold from Nov. 24, 2025, through Oct. 20, 2026, at Whole Foods Market stores and online through Amazon.com. That is nearly a year of sales, so a bottle bought months ago could still be in a cabinet.
Distribution was widened
The company's notice was updated Oct. 30 to say the product went out nationwide, rather than to select states. An earlier version of the notice, repeated in some local reports, listed stores in 30 states and the District of Columbia, plus online sales nationwide.
The updated notice is the one that counts. Shoppers in states that were not on the earlier list should check their bottles too.
What triggered it
Vitality Works said the potential contamination was identified through routine sampling of a single retail unit. The company's notice calls the contamination a "potential" one. It does not say whether a laboratory confirmed salmonella in that sample.
The notice also does not say how many bottles are in the affected lot or how many were sold.
What the company says to do
Customers who have the recalled lot should not consume it. They should discard it and not return it to the store.
Refunds are available at any Whole Foods Market store. The company says people with questions can call Vitality Works at (505) 268-9950, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Mountain Time.
The FDA posts recall announcements as a public service and states that it does not endorse the product or the company. This is a company-announced recall, not an FDA enforcement action.
Why salmonella matters
The company's notice says salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Healthy people who are infected may have fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases the bacteria can enter the bloodstream and cause more severe illness, including infected aneurysms, endocarditis and arthritis.
Most infected people recover without treatment. Dehydration from vomiting and diarrhea is the usual danger.
What remains open
The recall is limited to one lot, and no one has reported getting sick. Whether lab testing confirms salmonella in the sampled bottle, and whether any further testing leads to other lots being added, has not been announced by Vitality Works or the FDA.
The company already changed the scope of its notice once, from select states to nationwide, so the details may shift again.
