Resignation Calls Multiply After DNC Releases Autopsy: Martin Now Faces Pressure from House Members, Hogg, and His Own Party's Base

Resignation Calls Multiply After DNC Releases Autopsy: Martin Now Faces Pressure from House Members, Hogg, and His Own Party's Base
The DNC autopsy is out, and the fallout is accelerating fast. Since our last coverage, a sitting House member and Democratic activist David Hogg have explicitly called for Ken Martin's head — and the report itself is being savaged across the political spectrum as a whitewash that dodges the two biggest decisions the party made in 2024.

The Pressure Just Got Institutional

Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Texas) became the first sitting House Democrat to publicly call for DNC Chair Ken Martin to resign, telling The Hill on Thursday that Martin should "move on." When elected officials start putting their names on it, the story changes.

David Hogg — DNC Vice Chair and prominent party donor — also went on record demanding Martin's resignation, according to The Hill. Hogg called the entire episode "a complete and total failure." NBC News confirmed the resignation calls are now growing beyond fringe voices into a coordinated chorus.

What the Report Actually Says — and Doesn't

The DNC released the full autopsy Thursday, May 22, 2026. Martin had been sitting on it since late last year. He pledged transparency, reversed in December, then reversed again under sustained pressure — including a public call from Kamala Harris herself to release it.

Here's Martin's explanation, per ZeroHedge quoting his Thursday statement directly: "When I received the report late last year, it wasn't ready for primetime — not even close — and because no source material was provided, it would have meant starting over."

Then he added: "After last November's massive Democratic wins, I didn't want to create a distraction, but by not putting the report out, I ended up creating an even bigger distraction. For that, I sincerely apologize."

That's an admission from a DNC chair who misjudged a transparency call.

The Report Itself Has Problems

According to ZeroHedge — which is right-leaning but drew on NBC News reporting here — large sections of the document are devoted to "a lengthy recap of modern American political history dating to the 2008 presidential election, historic fundraising and spending data from past elections." That's padding.

Annotators flagged factual errors, including incorrect election results. Some claims were flagged as unsupported by evidence. The Hill reported that Democrats across the party blasted the DNC over the handling, not just the content.

When the report does address 2024, it leans on soft, vague language — blaming an "inability or unwillingness to listen to all voters" and claiming Harris "failed to make her positions known."

What the Autopsy Skips

According to ZeroHedge, the report conspicuously skips the two most consequential decisions the party made in 2024: the decision to elevate Harris without a primary, and the late-stage handoff from Biden after his debate collapse. Neither gets a serious reckoning in this document.

The Hill's reporting confirms the draft report "blames Biden's political operation" in part. But blaming the guy who already left isn't accountability. It's scapegoating someone who can't fight back from his current position.

What NBC News Underplayed

NBC News framed this primarily as a process story — Martin mishandled the rollout, Democrats are frustrated, here come the resignation calls. That's accurate as far as it goes.

The substance of the report itself is the bigger issue. A party that can't produce an honest accounting of why it lost — with correct election results, sourced claims, and a willingness to name the actual decisions that sank the ticket — has not done the work needed to win back voters it lost.

ZeroHedge called it a "total whitewash." The NBC News-cited details about padding and factual errors support that assessment.

The Immediate Question

One House member has called for Martin's resignation. The question now is whether that number grows — or whether Martin weathers this the way party insiders usually do: by waiting for the news cycle to move on.
