Prabowo Nominates Destry Damayanti as Sole Pick to Run Indonesia's Central Bank

President Prabowo Subianto has nominated Destry Damayanti as his sole candidate for Bank Indonesia governor, according to a presidential spokesperson cited by Kontan. Destry, 62, has been running the central bank on an interim basis since Governor Perry Warjiyo abruptly resigned in late July 2026, citing personal reasons.

She didn't come out of nowhere. Destry has been Bank Indonesia's senior deputy governor since 2019, making her the bank's second-ranking official the moment Warjiyo walked out the door. Reuters reported her as the frontrunner even before the nomination became official, according to Free Malaysia Today.

Parliament isn't even in session right now. Lawmakers are on recess and won't reconvene until August 14, according to BriefAsia and Free Malaysia Today. Prabowo had room to nominate up to three candidates. He didn't. Why the timing is dicey

This isn't happening in a vacuum. The unresolved question

Nobody in these reports can say whether Destry would serve a full five-year term or just finish out the remainder of Warjiyo's term, which runs through 2028, according to Free Malaysia Today. There's a reasonable case for moving fast here.
