May 19 Primary Results Finalized: Massie Is Out, Barr Wins Kentucky Senate, Georgia Heads to Runoffs, and Bottoms Clinches the Governor's Nod

Massie Is Gone. Trump's Revenge Tour Keeps Winning.
The cleanest headline out of Tuesday: Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky lost his GOP House primary to Ed Gallrein, a Trump-endorsed former Navy SEAL. Decision Desk HQ projected the result, and Politico confirmed it plainly — Trump picked off another enemy.
Massie had been one of the loudest anti-Trump voices in the House Republican conference. Now he's done. Massie was a 12-year incumbent who won his last race with over 70% of the vote. Trump turned that around in one cycle.
Barr Wins Kentucky Senate — McConnell's Seat Goes MAGA
Rep. Andy Barr defeated former state Attorney General Daniel Cameron 60.5% to 30.8% in the Kentucky Republican Senate primary, according to NBC News results. Barr had Trump's endorsement. Cameron — who had his own prior Trump backing — lost by 30 points.
Barr now heads into November as the heavy favorite in deep-red Kentucky. He will almost certainly replace Mitch McConnell, the longest-serving Senate leader in U.S. history.
On the Democratic side, Charles Booker defeated Amy McGrath 46.8% to 35.9%, according to NBC News. Booker is the progressive former state lawmaker who lost the 2020 Democratic primary to McGrath, who then lost to McConnell by 19 points in the general election. He faces Barr in November.
Georgia: Raffensperger Falls, Runoffs Rule the Day
Brad Raffensperger — the Georgia Secretary of State who refused to help Trump overturn the 2020 election results — lost his Republican primary for governor. Rick Jackson, described by Politico as a "MAGA billionaire" healthcare executive, and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones advanced to a runoff, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Raffensperger's loss came as no surprise. The margin and the message reshaped the Georgia GOP. Politico's framing — "relics of the past" — captures how completely the party realigned. Georgia is a genuine swing state now, and running a MAGA purist in a statewide general carries risk.
The runoff between Jackson and Jones will pit wealth against Trump endorsement. That fight remains unsettled.
Bottoms Wins Georgia Democrats' Governor Nod Outright
Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms clinched the Democratic nomination for Georgia governor outright, avoiding a runoff, according to Decision Desk HQ. She pulled 56.2% of the vote, per NBC News results.
Bottoms is a known quantity — former Biden administration official, former mayor of Atlanta. Democrats had internal concerns about her record running the city, according to Politico. She won anyway.
She now faces either Jackson or Jones in November. Georgia is a tossup.
Georgia Senate: Collins and Dooley Head to Runoff
Rep. Mike Collins and former college football coach Derek Dooley advanced to a Republican runoff for Georgia's Senate seat currently held by Democrat Jon Ossoff, per Decision Desk HQ and confirmed by Politico.
The extended intraparty fight delays Republicans from consolidating against Ossoff — a first-term Democrat who is one of the top GOP targets nationally this cycle. Every week Collins and Dooley spend fighting each other is a week Ossoff's team uses to prepare.
Georgia Supreme Court: Democratic Effort Falls Flat
Republican-appointed Justices Charlie Bethel and Sarah Warren defeated their Democratic-backed challengers in Georgia Supreme Court races, according to Decision Desk HQ via The Hill. Democrats made a push in these officially nonpartisan races. It didn't work.
Pennsylvania: Shapiro vs. Garrity Set, Progressive Rabb Wins House Primary
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro will face Republican state Treasurer Stacy Garrity this November, per Decision Desk HQ. Shapiro is one of the most popular Democratic governors in the country.
In Pennsylvania's 3rd Congressional District — the nation's bluest House seat, per Politico — progressive state Rep. Chris Rabb won the Democratic primary. Rabb was backed by members of the Squad and describes himself as a "troublemaker." He will almost certainly win in November.
In a competitive district, Governor Shapiro's preferred candidate, Brooks, won a contested primary and will face GOP Rep. Ryan Mackenzie in a key November battleground race, according to Politico.
Alabama: Tuberville Moves to Governor, Senate Seat Heads to Runoff
Sen. Tommy Tuberville is leaving his Senate seat to run for governor of Alabama, setting up a fall matchup with former Sen. Doug Jones — who won a 2017 special election before losing in 2020. Alabama is deep red.
The Alabama Senate Republican primary to replace Tuberville headed to a runoff between Rep. Barry Moore and another candidate, per NBC News.
What the Results Mean
Trump's endorsement operation is 2-for-2 in Kentucky and running the table in primaries. Primaries are not general elections. Georgia is where all of this could unravel — or pay off — in November. Watch the Jackson-Jones runoff. Watch Ossoff's bank account.
