Ethereum ETFs Extend Inflow Streak to 10 Days While Bitcoin Funds Lose $202 Million as Warsh Speech Rattles Markets

Ethereum ETFs Extend Inflow Streak to 10 Days While Bitcoin Funds Lose $202 Million as Warsh Speech Rattles Markets
Bitcoin ETFs snapped a nine-day, $3 billion inflow streak on August 28 with a $202 million outflow as BTC slid toward $77,000 following Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole remarks. Ethereum ETFs kept buying through the same selloff, stretching their streak to 10 straight days and pulling in $102 million even as ETH fell more than 3%.

Since Bitcoin topped $80,000 on August 27 while corporate treasury buyers sat on roughly $80 billion in unrealized losses, the market has taken another turn. On August 28, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs posted their first net outflow in more than a week, according to SoSoValue data cited by Bloomingbit and BigGo Finance. Ethereum ETFs did the opposite, extending a buying streak that had already outlasted Bitcoin's.

The numbers are specific. Bitcoin funds recorded $201.81 million in net outflows on August 28, ending a nine-session run that began August 17 and had pulled in a cumulative $3.044 billion, according to BigGo Finance. Ethereum funds took in another $102.18 million that same day, stretching their own streak to 10 consecutive trading sessions and pushing the 10-day total to roughly $1.42 billion to $1.52 billion depending on the count, per Crypto Briefing and Bloomingbit.

Where the Money Moved

On the Bitcoin side, ARK 21Shares' ARKB led the exodus with $114.89 million pulled out, according to Altcoin Buzz and BigGo Finance. Bitwise's BITB shed $49.69 million. BlackRock's IBIT, still the largest spot Bitcoin fund by assets, lost $33.4 million. VanEck's HODL gave up $13.17 million. Morgan Stanley's fund was the lone holdout, adding $9.34 million.

On the Ethereum side, BlackRock again dominated. Its ETHA fund alone brought in $83.79 million on August 28, with its ETHB product adding another $42.64 million, according to Bloomingbit. Fidelity's FETH actually saw a $24.26 million outflow that day. Across the full 10-day streak, BlackRock's ETHA accounted for roughly 72% of total inflows, a concentration BigGo Finance and Crypto Briefing both flagged as the defining feature of the run.

The single strongest day came August 27, when Ethereum ETFs pulled in between $225.8 million and $234.51 million depending on the source, the best single-session haul since October 28, 2025, according to Crypto Briefing. KuCoin's reporting on that same session noted Ethereum inflows came within striking distance of Bitcoin's same-day total, calling the near-parity itself the notable signal rather than the raw dollar figure.

The Trigger: Warsh at Jackson Hole

The catalyst for Bitcoin's reversal traces to Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's remarks at the Jackson Hole Symposium. According to Coingabbar, citing CNBC, Warsh acknowledged that recent PCE and CPI inflation readings came in better than expected but stopped short of declaring the underlying inflation trend improved. He called for a "quieter Fed," one that leans less on forward guidance, a deliberate break from how former Chair Jerome Powell used rate-cut signals to steer markets.

Breitbart's economy coverage confirmed the market reaction was sharp, reporting that Warsh's comments sent odds of a September rate hike "soaring." Bitcoin, which had traded above $81,000 intraday, slid to $76,888 before recovering slightly to trade around $77,700, a decline of roughly 2% on the day, according to Altcoin Buzz. Ethereum fell from an intraday high near $2,566 down to the $2,400 to $2,435 range, a drop of more than 3% according to both Bloomingbit and Coingabbar.

BigGo Finance also noted a competing explanation circulating among traders. Some market participants view the Bitcoin outflows as ordinary profit-taking after BTC ran roughly 25% from the mid-$64,000s to $80,000 during the prior nine-day streak. A fund that just banked a 25% gain has every reason to see some sellers regardless of what the Fed chair says, and the $202 million outflow amounts to only about 6.6% of the prior nine sessions' cumulative inflows, hardly a stampede for the exits.

Ethereum's Divergence from Bitcoin

None of the crypto-focused sources adequately explain why Ethereum kept attracting money while Bitcoin didn't, beyond noting lower Treasury yields in the broader macro environment, a point Crypto Briefing raised without much elaboration. Altcoin Buzz gets closest to an answer by pointing to a broader rotation. XRP ETFs added $26.2 million on August 28, and Solana ETFs have built up roughly $1.7 billion in inflows without a sustained outflow period, suggesting institutional money is spreading across altcoin products rather than concentrating in Bitcoin alone.

Cumulative numbers put the divergence in perspective. Ethereum ETFs have now crossed $12 billion to $12.97 billion in lifetime inflows since their July 2024 launch. Bitcoin ETFs still hold a commanding lead at more than $54 billion cumulative, according to Crypto Briefing, and total Bitcoin ETF assets dipped back below $100 billion after briefly crossing that mark on August 27, per Altcoin Buzz.

Whether August 28 was a one-day blip or the start of a longer rotation remains to be seen. KuCoin's own reporting cautioned against over-reading a single session, noting that a durable shift would require several consecutive days of Ethereum flows matching or beating Bitcoin's, not one. With one trading session left in August, whether Bitcoin funds snap back to inflows or extend their outflow streak will be the next data point worth watching.
