What Happened Ahmed Samir Muhammad Washah was killed in an Israeli drone strike on a home in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza on Saturday, June 21. Al Jazeera identified him as a cameraman for Al Jazeera Mubasher, the network's Arabic-language live channel, and said two other people were also killed in the strike. Al Jazeera called him the 12th network employee killed by Israel since October 7, 2023. The IDF disputes that framing. In a public statement, the military said Washah was "a terrorist in Hamas' military wing who served as a sniper operative" and that he was targeted precisely because of that role, not because he was a journalist.
