Bezos' Net Worth Up an Estimated $102 Billion in September as Blue Origin Takes Outside Money at $130 Billion Valuation

Bezos' Net Worth Up an Estimated $102 Billion in September as Blue Origin Takes Outside Money at $130 Billion Valuation
Forbes estimates Jeff Bezos' fortune rose $102 billion in September to about $370 billion, driven by two private companies, Blue Origin and Prometheus, rather than Amazon stock. He sold nothing. The gain is a paper revaluation that has not been tested on a public market, and Bezos says a Blue Origin IPO is several years away.

Jeff Bezos' net worth jumped by an estimated $102 billion in September 2026, according to Forbes, lifting him to roughly $370 billion as of Oct. 1. That made him the second-richest person on the Forbes ranking, passing Larry Page. It is his highest position on the list since May 2025.

Amazon stock did not do it. The gain traces to two private companies that no one can buy on a public exchange: Blue Origin and Prometheus.

And he sold nothing. This is a repricing of what he already owned.

Blue Origin's first outside money

Blue Origin, the rocket company Bezos founded in 2000, has raised its first outside funding round at a $130 billion pre-money valuation. Add the new cash and the post-money figure is about $140 billion. Both numbers circulate, and both describe the same deal.

Bloomberg reported that Coatue Management is expected to lead with about $4 billion. Bezos is putting in another $2 billion himself. Other institutional investors are expected to fill out the round.

Bezos told Fox News' Bret Baier that Blue Origin has raised more than $10 billion. He said he waited because he did not want outside investors until he was sure it would be a good investment for them. "I see the financial future of Blue with some clarity now," he said.

Before this round, Bezos owned Blue Origin outright, according to Forbes. So the new valuation lands directly on his personal balance sheet.

Bezos said on Fox News that he has personally invested $28 billion in the company since founding it in 2000. Other reports put his total investment at roughly $30 billion, citing a Wall Street Journal report. He also said he expects Blue Origin to "be a public company at some point," but that an IPO is "several years from now."

Prometheus and the Amazon stake

The second piece is Prometheus, an industrial AI startup Bezos co-founded with Vik Bajaj, the former chief scientific officer of Verily. Axios reported that it closed a $12 billion Series B at a $41 billion valuation in June 2026. Forbes estimates Bezos holds about 20%, worth roughly $8.2 billion.

That stake is far smaller than the Blue Origin revaluation. Together, the two private companies now make up more than a third of his net worth, a mix that did not exist a year ago.

Amazon remains the foundation. Bezos holds about 8% of the company, per Forbes, and has sold more than $49 billion of Amazon stock since the 1997 IPO. For 26 years Blue Origin lived almost entirely on Bezos' own money, much of it paid for by selling Amazon stock.

Why the trackers disagree

The $102 billion figure is a Forbes estimate. Bloomberg's index runs on a different method, and the gap was large until recently.

Bloomberg showed Bezos at $285 billion as of a Wednesday close, before the round was reflected. One summary put Forbes at $371.2 billion against Bloomberg's $283 billion. The difference came down to Blue Origin. Forbes carried it at about $130 billion. Bloomberg carried it at roughly what Bezos had put in, a profile figure of about $17 billion.

After the round, Bloomberg changed its approach. That added about $85 billion to his total, by Bloomberg's account. Bloomberg's index showed him at $372 billion on Oct. 9. Bloomberg also shows Elon Musk at about $1 trillion, so the distance to No. 1 is still enormous.

The disagreement is between two methods. One marks a private company to the latest funding round. The other held it near cost until outside investors set a price.

Musk's reaction and the government money

Musk responded on X to the clip of Bezos' Fox interview: "Bravo! I'm glad @JeffBezos cares so much about space." The two have clashed for years over launchpads, government contracts and patents. Musk once called Blue Origin "Sue Origin."

Taxpayers are part of the Blue Origin picture too. The company recently won a $700 million NASA contract to build a telecommunications orbiter on its Blue Ring platform. It also landed a separate $468 million contract for an uncrewed lunar mission.

What a paper gain is and isn't

A valuation set by a handful of investors in one private round is a price agreed between willing parties. It is not a price discovered by thousands of buyers and sellers. Bezos' wealth on paper is now concentrated in assets with no daily market price.

The next real test is the one Bezos himself pointed to. Blue Origin's public-market debut is, in his words, several years away, and until then the $130 billion figure rests on the round now being filled.
