Anthropic Rolls Out Claude for Financial Advisors, Wiring Schwab, BlackRock and Vanguard Data Into the Chatbot

Anthropic Rolls Out Claude for Financial Advisors, Wiring Schwab, BlackRock and Vanguard Data Into the Chatbot
Anthropic launched Claude for Financial Advisors on Sept. 14, 2026, bundling connectors to Schwab, BlackRock, Vanguard, Addepar and others so advisors can automate meeting prep, compliance checks and portfolio reviews. Schwab says it's rolling this out to more than 16,000 independent RIAs, and Anthropic insists the AI won't give investment advice, just paperwork relief. That line gets murkier once you cross the Atlantic, where regulators already have rules for what counts as an implicit recommendation.

Anthropic released Claude for Financial Advisors on Monday, September 14, 2026, a plugin bundling connectors and workflow skills built for the daily grind of running a wealth management practice, according to the company's own statement and reporting from Unite.ai.

The list of integrations is long: Charles Schwab, BlackRock, Vanguard, Addepar, Envestnet, iCapital, Orion, SS&C Black Diamond, Wealthbox, Wealth.com and Zocks, according to Anthropic and confirmed by TipRanks. Those stack on top of connectors Claude already had to Microsoft 365, Salesforce, DocuSign, Box, FactSet, S&P Global and Morningstar.

The skills are specific: meeting prep, alternative investment analysis, compliance and AI-policy reviews, estate and tax briefs, portfolio rebalancing reviews, post-meeting notes and prospect intake, per Crypto Briefing's summary of the launch. The product is available to Enterprise customers through what Unite.ai described as the Cowork plugin browser.

Why advisors, why now

Anthropic's pitch rests on two numbers. Unite.ai reported the announcement cites Kitces research finding a typical advisory practice spends only a sixth of its time in actual client meetings, the rest eaten by admin and research. It also cites EBRI's 2026 Retirement Confidence Survey, where more than four in 10 American workers said they don't know who to go to for financial or retirement planning advice.

Bloomberg's Tanya Falenczyk and Silla Brush reported that Jonathan Pelosi, Anthropic's head of financial services, framed the play as a capacity problem: "these people are retiring, there's not a ton of them," he said of the advisor workforce, according to Bloomberg's reporting as relayed by The Next Web. BlackRock's wealth advisory head, Jaime Magyera, told Bloomberg the firm already manages roughly $300 billion in the model portfolios advisors buy off the shelf, and that advisors increasingly want to outsource that work rather than build it themselves.

Schwab Advisor Services is the anchor partner. Jon Beatty, who runs that unit, said in a Business Wire release that Schwab is bringing Claude directly to the more than 16,000 independent RIAs it serves. "AI is exponentially powering the ability of advisors to stand apart," Beatty said, adding it works best "integrated with the proprietary workflows and tech stacks advisors have already built." Alison Dooher, Schwab's head of AI for advisor services, said the tool "takes on more of the work that pulls advisors away from their clients." Anthropic's Peter Nolan, head of asset and wealth management, said the goal is reaching "as many families as possible" through the advisors people already trust.

The guardrail, and where it gets tested

Anthropic is drawing a bright line around the product: Claude drafts, summarizes and flags, but a human advisor signs off before anything reaches a client. "You won't explicitly get investment advice from Claude. We reserve that judgment for the experts," Pelosi said, according to The Next Web's account of the Bloomberg reporting.

This matches how the industry has approached AI so far, keeping a licensed human as the last check before money moves or advice gets delivered. It's also the same argument every AI company selling into a regulated profession makes, and it hasn't yet been tested against a specific complaint or enforcement action in the U.S.

The Next Web raised a fair question that the other coverage skipped entirely: in Europe, that disclaimer runs into a legal standard, not just a marketing one. Under MiFID II, whether something counts as investment advice turns on a five-part test, and the EU's securities regulator, ESMA, has told firms that suitability can be implied, not just stated outright, and that using AI doesn't reduce a firm's obligations to act in a client's best interest. The Next Web noted that a European broker, Scalable Capital, went further in August, connecting roughly €60 billion in client assets directly to ChatGPT and Claude for customer-facing use, a materially different exposure than Anthropic's advisor-only tool.

No U.S. regulator, the SEC or FINRA, is quoted in any of the current reporting weighing in on advisor-facing AI copilots specifically. That gap is worth watching. Anthropic's product launched a week after OpenAI shipped a competing tool for bankers and equity researchers, according to The Next Web, meaning U.S. regulators now have two major AI vendors embedded in regulated financial advice workflows with no public framework yet addressing either one directly.

The open question isn't whether Claude works. It's whether the human-in-the-loop model holds up once thousands of advisors start relying on AI-drafted portfolio rebalances and estate briefs as a matter of routine, and whether the SEC eventually decides that routine use starts to look a lot like the recommendation Pelosi says Claude isn't making.
