Saints Waive WWE Star Scott Steiner's Son Brock Rechsteiner, Who Was Already Facing a 6-Game PED Suspension

Brock Rechsteiner's rookie season is over before it started.

The New Orleans Saints waived the undrafted wide receiver on August 30, ahead of the league's 6 p.m. ET deadline for teams to trim rosters to 53 players, according to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football, whose reporting was cited by NBC Sports, Fightful, Yardbarker, eWrestlingNews and Jingle Tree.

Rechsteiner is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner, whose real last name is Rechsteiner. He's also the nephew of WWE Hall of Famer Rick Steiner and the cousin of current WWE star Bron Breakker, born Bronson Rechsteiner, who also went undrafted out of college and signed with the Baltimore Ravens before pivoting to wrestling.

The Suspension Came First

The NFL announced on August 6 that Rechsteiner had been suspended for the first six games of the 2026 season, according to USA Today. The league's transaction wire didn't explain why. It only said he'd "been suspended by the Commissioner" and would be eligible for all preseason games, with the ban starting once rosters got cut to 53.

That vague framing carried through most of the coverage. Jingle Tree wrote flatly that "the reason behind the suspension remains unclear." Bleacher Report's initial report on the suspension, citing ESPN's Adam Schefter, also gave no cause.

WrestleView is the outlet that filled in the blank. Citing its own reporting alongside F4WOnline, WrestleView reported that the Saints later confirmed the suspension was for a violation of the NFL-NFLPA performance-enhancing substances policy. None of the other seven sources reviewed here mention that detail, which means most of the coverage cycle on Rechsteiner's release described a suspension for "unspecified reasons" when the actual reason had already been confirmed by his own team.

From Camp Standout to Roster Cut

Rechsteiner signed with New Orleans as an undrafted free agent after a tryout at the team's rookie minicamp in May, following four seasons at Jacksonville State. Statistical totals vary slightly by outlet. USA Today lists 53 catches for 629 yards and seven touchdowns across three seasons; Jingle Tree lists 52 catches for 630 yards and seven scores across four seasons and 35 games; Bleacher Report cites 36 catches, 383 yards and five touchdowns in his final collegiate year alone. The discrepancies are minor but worth flagging since none of the outlets fully reconcile them.

His path to a roster spot got a boost from injuries and attrition elsewhere on the depth chart. Jingle Tree reported that defensive lineman Bryan Bresee's season-ending knee injury and receiver Ja'Lynn Polk's abrupt retirement at 24 opened up room. Rechsteiner played in the Saints' 34-0 preseason loss to the Rams, catching one pass for five yards.

He also made headlines during joint practices with the Dallas Cowboys, when multiple fights broke out. Jingle Tree and NBC Sports both reported that Rechsteiner threw Cowboys safety Jalen Thompson to the ground, a moment NBC Sports framed as "paying homage to his father's career." Dallas linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku was dismissed from that practice for throwing punches.

None of the sources reviewed state that the suspension caused the waiver decision. The Saints already had a crowded receiver room, having drafted Jordyn Tyson, Bryce Lance and Barion Brown to pair with Chris Olave, according to USA Today. Whatever the exact calculus, a receiver who couldn't play the first six games of the season was never going to be a priority roster spot.

Rechsteiner's six-game suspension runs regardless of whether he's on any team's roster, according to Fightful and eWrestlingNews. He remains eligible to sign to a practice squad while serving the ban, per Jingle Tree.

He's told reporters, including WDSU-TV in May, that he plans to pursue a WWE career once his football days end, and WrestleView reported he signed a WWE NIL deal back in February 2025.
