Raiders' Jack Bech Breaks Forearm in Emotional Return to New Orleans, Where His Brother Was Killed in the Bourbon Street Attack

Jack Bech wanted one thing out of Sunday's game in New Orleans: a new memory in a city he says he otherwise only associates with his brother's death. He didn't get much of a chance.

The Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver left Sunday's 35-27 win over the Saints at Caesars Superdome before halftime with a fractured forearm, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. He finished the game with zero catches. The only pass thrown his way in the end zone sailed over his head, and Saints safety Justin Reid was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the hit that followed, the Review-Journal reported.

Head coach Klint Kubiak said after the game that Bech would be further evaluated Monday back in Las Vegas. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the Raiders plan to place Bech on injured reserve, according to NFL.com and the New York Post. The Post reported he's expected back later this season, though the exact timeline hasn't been made public.

Heavy and Yahoo Sports, citing the same reporting, noted the team's hope was for Bech to return as soon as Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs. That timeline is difficult to square with an injured reserve stint, since NFL rules generally require players to miss a minimum of four games once placed on IR. Kubiak has not given a specific return date.

A Homecoming Bech Didn't Choose

This wasn't just any road trip for Bech, a native of nearby Lafayette, Louisiana. It was his first NFL game in New Orleans, the city where he grew up going to Saints games at the Superdome with his older brother, Tiger.

Tiger Bech was one of 14 people killed on New Year's Day 2025, when Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a pickup truck through a crowd on Bourbon Street, according to The Athletic's Sam Warren, whose reporting was cited by Heavy and Yahoo Sports. Jack Bech was playing for TCU at the time and flew in from Fort Worth, Texas, hoping to reach his brother before he died. He arrived too late, according to Warren's reporting.

Ahead of Sunday's game, Bech told Warren he wanted to "rewrite this wrong in New Orleans" and "get that nasty, dirty taste out of our mouth." He told New York Post columnist Vincent Bonsignore much the same thing, describing the game as "a little homecoming to rewrite a wrong and put a good taste in our mouth from New Orleans."

During pregame warmups, Bech wore a shirt reading "LLT," for Live Like Tiger, along with orange cleats featuring black tiger stripes, the Post reported. Raiders receivers coach Zach Azzanni had advised him beforehand to "play the game with emotions; don't be emotional," Bech told Warren, a line he said helped him prepare for the day.

The Rest of the Game

The injury wasn't the Raiders' only casualty. Starting right guard Jackson Powers-Johnson suffered a groin injury late in the game and was replaced by Caleb Rogers, according to the Review-Journal. Kubiak had no update on Powers-Johnson's status after the game.

Bech's absence opened snaps for Cody White, who was called up from the practice squad for a third straight week and scored his third touchdown of the season, the Review-Journal reported. "There he is again," Kubiak said of White. "All he does is work hard and produce. I'm very happy for No. 82." Bech's potential IR placement would create a permanent roster spot for White going forward.

Tight end Brock Bowers had seven catches for 87 yards in the first half alone in his first game back this season, according to Heavy, giving Las Vegas another weapon as it improved to 3-0.

Before the injury, Bech had five catches for 48 yards and a touchdown through the first two games of the 2026 season. He was selected by the Raiders in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Raiders host the Chiefs in Week 4. Whether Bech is on the field for that game, or any game before mid-October, depends on evaluations Kubiak said would begin Monday in Las Vegas. Until the team confirms an actual IR designation and games-missed count, the timeline offered by Rapoport and the specific hope of a Week 4 return remain two different pictures of how long Bech will be out.
