Jets Chase First 2-0 Start Since 2015 as Reeling Packers Visit MetLife Sunday

The New York Jets are 1-0 for the first time since 2023, and Sunday they get a chance at something they haven't done in over a decade: start a season 2-0.

New York beat the Tennessee Titans 23-10 in Week 1, rushing for 152 yards and dominating time of possession behind new coach Aaron Glenn, who also called defensive plays. But as the NY Post's Brian Costello wrote, that win came with an asterisk. "Every evaluation of that game seems to come with a 'but' as in, 'but it came against the Titans,'" Costello wrote, noting Tennessee is coached by former Jets coach Robert Saleh and quarterbacked by Cam Ward, who struggled behind a shaky offensive line all afternoon.

There's no such asterisk available if the Jets beat Green Bay. The Packers are a perennial playoff team with a quarterback in Jordan Love considered among the league's best, coached by Matt LaFleur.

A Packers Team on the Ropes

Green Bay is not walking into MetLife Stadium healthy or confident. The Packers blew a 12-point lead in Week 1 and lost 39-22 to the Minnesota Vikings, a collapse Sports Illustrated described as an embarrassing loss. That loss extends Green Bay's losing streak to six straight games, dating back to dropping their final five games of the 2025 season.

Star pass rusher Micah Parsons remains on injured reserve after tearing his ACL, and running back Josh Jacobs is on the NFL's commissioner exempt list, according to the NY Post. Neither will play Sunday.

Sports Illustrated's analysis put a number on the stakes: only about 14% of teams that start 0-2 recover to make the playoffs. That doesn't make Sunday a must-win in September, but it's close.

The Weak Spot Jets Should Attack

According to Jets X-Factor, Green Bay's offensive line is the clearest opening for New York's defense. The site pointed to how Minnesota defensive coordinator Brian Flores dismantled the Packers front in the fourth quarter of Week 1, running "simulated pressure with only four rushers, Cover-0 overloaded blitzes, zone dog, cross dog" and a variety of stunts that the Packers' line had no answer for.

Right tackle Zach Tom, the unit's most experienced starter with 52 career starts, is coming off offseason surgery to repair a partially torn patellar tendon. He missed most of training camp, was limited entering Week 1, and it showed in Jets X-Factor's breakdown of his Week 1 tape. If Aaron Glenn's defense, which held Tennessee's running backs to 47 yards on the ground in Week 1, brings similar pressure packages Sunday, Green Bay's line could be tested again.

What Both Teams Are Saying

Jets receiver Garrett Wilson wasn't downplaying the challenge. "The Packers are one of those organizations that every year they're in the running and they know what they're doing," Wilson told reporters Wednesday in Florham Park, according to the NY Post. "We want to earn our respect in this league and we know that you do that by playing good football every week."

Glenn, for his part, said the opponent doesn't change his message to the team. "I think each week we're trying to make a statement. It doesn't matter who it is," Glenn said. "The opponent doesn't matter to us. It's really about us and how we go and operate."

The Jets haven't opened a season 2-0 since 2015, when Todd Bowles and Ryan Fitzpatrick beat the Browns and Colts to start a run that finished 10-6, according to Jets X-Factor. The last time New York beat a team in Green Bay's tier was nearly two years ago, a Halloween win over the Texans, per the NY Post.

Tickets Aren't Moving Despite a Supply Surge

Away from the field, the secondary ticket market tells its own story. According to JetNation, the get-in price for Sunday's game has held flat at $64 for two straight weeks even as listings on TicketX jumped from 5,693 to 13,979, a 146% increase. The average listed price sits at $312, reflecting the gap between upper-deck seats and premium inventory. JetNation ranked the $64 floor as the fourth-lowest get-in price among 15 Week 2 games, notable given Green Bay's national following and the Jets' 1-0 start. The Jets are staging their first White Out promotion for the game, asking fans to wear white with rally towels distributed at MetLife.
