Unbiased Headlines ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website unbiasedheadlines.com (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
Account Information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password (stored as a salted hash — we never store plaintext passwords). You may also provide a display name.
Usage Data. We automatically collect standard web analytics data: pages visited, time on site, device type, browser, operating system, referral source, and IP address. We use Google Analytics for this purpose.
Push Notification Data. If you enable push notifications, we store a push subscription endpoint and cryptographic keys provided by your browser. This data is tied to your device, not your identity, unless you are logged in.
Preferences. Notification category preferences, audio speed settings, saved articles, and feedback you provide (thumbs up/down) are stored in association with your account or device.
Device Fingerprint. We collect a non-identifying device fingerprint to detect suspicious login activity and prevent abuse. This fingerprint is derived from browser characteristics and is not used for tracking across sites.
Sign-In With Google, Microsoft, or Apple. If you choose to sign in with a third-party identity provider (Google, Microsoft, or Apple), we request only the openid, email, and profile scopes. From those scopes we receive and store only your email address, your basic profile information (display name and profile picture URL, where the provider supplies it), and the provider's stable account identifier, which we use to link you to your Unbiased Headlines account on subsequent logins. We never receive or store your Google, Microsoft, or Apple password. We do not request, access, or store any other data from your Google Account — no Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Contacts, Photos, or any other Google API data.
Referral cookie. If you arrive through a member's referral link (?ref=), we set a first-party cookie (ubh_ref) with the referral code and the time of your first visit (ubh_ref_t) for 30 days (first touch), so the member can be credited if you create an account. We also set a random first-party device identifier cookie (ubh_did, kept for up to 1 year).
Fraud-prevention and eligibility signals. When an account is created through a referral link, and when a member loads their own referral link, we record: a keyed one-way hash (salted HMAC) of the IP address and of its network range (/24 for IPv4, /48 for IPv6) — we do not store the IP address itself for this purpose; a hash of the browser user-agent and of the random device cookie; browser language and time-zone offset; signup timing (time since the referral click and since page load); the email domain, whether it is a disposable-email domain, and simple email-pattern flags; and, only if the request happens to include one, an approximate country value (a missing country is never held against anyone). We use these signals only to detect fraud and abuse and to decide reward eligibility (the Referral Rewards Program is US-only). They are kept for 180 days and then deleted.
18+/US attestation. If you register through a referral link, we show one question, "Are you 18 or older and a US person?", and store your answer (yes or no) with a timestamp in a first-party cookie; if you then create an account, we record that answer (or that there was none) and when. Registration does not depend on it.
Rewards participants. If you join the Referral Rewards Program we record which version of the program terms you accepted and when, the exact text of the boxes you ticked, a fingerprint (SHA-256) of the terms page you saw, keyed hashes of your IP address and browser user-agent, if and when you left the program, your signups' reward status, and your payout history. What you see about people you refer: only counts (reward status counts and verified-registration totals by day, week and month); never their names, emails, IP addresses or any per-person detail. A referred signup is counted only after that person verifies their email. Account deletion: if you delete your account, your referral link, signups credited to you and unpaid rewards are deleted (a no-PII summary of what was forfeited is kept in our payout audit log); if you were referred, your fraud-prevention signals are deleted and the member keeps only an anonymous count. Payouts are processed by Stripe (Stripe Connect). Stripe collects your identity, bank and tax information directly under its own privacy policy; we store only your Stripe account identifier and its status, and never your tax ID or bank details.
No sale. We do not sell or share these referral or fraud signals with third parties for advertising. Referral signals are not used for advertising or profiling beyond fraud prevention and reward eligibility.

UBH World (ubhworld.com) is a free browser game we operate. When you play, including as a guest, we collect:
If you claim a physical prize, we also collect your name, US shipping address and, where required, tax information. You send this to us by email, not in the game.
We use this data to run the game, keep it secure, prevent cheating, verify prize finds under the Prize Terms, and fix bugs. Picking up a physical prize is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which is subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. We do not sell your personal information.
We keep raw gameplay data for 90 days; records of prize finds for 3 years; and tax records for 4 years. To ask us to delete your data, email hello@unbiasedheadlines.com.
UBH World is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
We use the information we collect to:
By creating an account, you consent to receive emails from us, including:
You can unsubscribe from non-transactional emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email or by adjusting your notification preferences in your account settings.
We may display advertisements on the Service. To support relevant ad delivery, we may share usage data that does not identify you by name (such as content categories viewed, device type, and general location) with advertising partners. We do not sell your name, email address, or other personally identifying information to advertisers.
Ad measurement. When you reach us from an ad, we store the ad campaign tags and the ad platform's click identifier (for example, Google's click ID) with your app install. We share that click identifier, and the fact that an install or a 7-day return occurred along with its time, with Google to measure how our ads perform. No name, email address, or account data is sent.
We use cookies for:
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect functionality (e.g., you may be logged out).
Error reports. If a page or script fails to load in your browser, your browser sends us a short error report so we can fix the problem. With each report we record the error message, the page path (without its query string), your browser type, version and operating system, and whether you arrived from an ad or campaign link (for example a link with utm, fbclid or gclid parameters). To count how many visitors were affected without identifying you, we store a one-way hashed identifier derived from your IP address and browser; we do not store your IP address in these reports.
Session Recording and Heatmaps. We use Contentsquare (which includes Hotjar) to monitor and analyze how visitors use the Service — for example, where people click, tap, and scroll, how far they read, and where pages are confusing or broken. This behavioral analytics tool records visits as session replays and combines them into heatmaps, along with basic technical details such as device type, browser, screen size, and approximate location derived from your IP address. Recordings are masked: page text, numbers, and images are hidden, and anything you type into forms — including email addresses and search terms — is not collected. We use this information only internally, to improve the design and usability of Unbiased Headlines. It is not used for advertising, and it is not sold to or shared with advertisers or other third parties; Contentsquare processes it on our behalf as a service provider. By using the Service, you consent to this analytics and session monitoring.
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:
We retain account data for as long as your account is active. Usage data and analytics are retained in aggregate form. Push subscriptions are automatically removed when they expire or are revoked by your browser.
Deleting your account. You can delete your Unbiased Headlines account and all associated personal data at any time from unbiasedheadlines.com/account/delete, or by emailing hello@unbiasedheadlines.com from the address on your account. Deletion removes your email address, display name, third-party sign-in identifiers (including any Google, Microsoft, or Apple account identifier), password hash, saved articles, notification preferences, and push subscriptions. We complete deletion requests within 30 days. Aggregated, de-identified analytics that cannot be linked back to you may be retained. Records we are legally required to keep (for example, tax or fraud-prevention records) are retained only for the period the law requires.
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords (bcrypt), and restricted access to production databases. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
The Service is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have collected data from a child under 18, we will delete it promptly.

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what data we collect, the right to delete your data, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined by the CCPA.
The UBH Referral Rewards Program pays eligible members a fixed reward (currently $10 per Confirmed Signup, US only, subject to the Referral Rewards Terms) for referring new members. Participation involves personal information: your account and contact information, your referral link activity, the reward status of signups you refer, the fraud-prevention signals described in Section 1c, and payout information held by Stripe. How to opt in: accept the Referral Rewards Terms in Settings or the invite popup. How to withdraw: use Leave program in Settings, or email hello@unbiasedheadlines.com, at any time; rewards already Confirmed or Deferred remain payable under the Terms. Value of your data: we estimate the value of the personal information involved as reasonably related to the reward amount, based on our expected cost of acquiring a new active member by other means. You can use the Service without joining the Program, and we do not treat you differently if you do not participate.
